InCiTe Photo Friday – Titanium Sample

Titanium is commonly used for medical and dental implant devices, as it has good corrosion resistance and hard-tissue compatibility. In orthopaedics, this material is used for artificial joints, bone fixators, spinal fixators, etc.The featured images can have different clinical uses. For in vivo applications, they help quantify the implant fixation (well-fixed vs loose) and potentially in parallel bone healing and fusion (in trauma and spinal applications).

For ex vivo applications, the purpose is to examine the bone-implant interface, and how under fatigue loading this anisotropic interface is damaged.

Note that the phase contrast improves the visualization of the bone structures.
