Providing Imaging Solutions That Could Transform Tuberculosis Treatment With Ease and Accuracy in Markets With the Most Need

KA Imaging and Shirazi Trading Company have partnered to bring Reveal™ 35C, the world’s first portable Dual Energy Subtraction (DES) X-ray detector, to Pakistan. 

“We are excited to provide Reveal 35C to a growing market in Pakistan, during times where imaging needs have substantially increased for faster patient care,” said Dr. Karim S. Karim, a co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of KA Imaging. “Not only are hospitals around the world faced with a pandemic, but most of the countries in Asia, including Pakistan, continue to battle an on-going burden of disease due to tuberculosis (TB), a disease responsible for 1.5 million deaths worldwide annually.” 

The World Health Organization has estimated 510,000 new TB cases emerge each year in Pakistan, and have ranked the country fifth, with one of the highest rates of TB occurrence in countries worldwide1. 

“DES X-ray has been shown to assist clinicians in detecting TB more accurately than conventional digital X-ray imaging. Accurate TB detection could lead to more efficient use of scarce clinical and laboratory resources including better artificial intelligence algorithms for TB screening in large populations and the optimal use of costly Xpert MTB/RIF assays. Reveal 35C has also demonstrated promising results in Canadian studies for detecting other lung diseases including lung nodules and pneumonia (including COVID-19),” said Dr. Karim.
  

Reveal 35C is KA Imaging’s answer to known problems with the previous generation of DES X-ray imaging systems that suffer from motion artifacts and require higher radiation. Reveal uses a single low dose X-ray exposure to provide three images (standard X-ray, bone and tissue separation) with zero motion artifacts. With Reveal, for the first time, one can use the same technique, same dose and same X-ray source as a standard chest x-ray and Reveal is also the world’s first portable DES solution allowing mobile TB screening and other X-ray imaging in hard to access regions.
